Life at Ford Place

Delivering premium nursing care in Norfolk

Ford Place is a beautiful Grade II Listed country mansion originally built between 1795 and 1805.  The house was commissioned by George Beauchamp Proctor Esquire, the second son of Sir William Beauchamp Proctor, who was a sponsor to Sir John Ross’s second voyage in search of the North-West Passage.  The House has had a number of notable owners since Gesurge Beauchamp, including Sir William Gentle, Mayor of Thetford and Cornell Fison, a famous East Anglian merchant.

Ford Place is located on the site of a former Augustinian Friary and is built of gault brick and black glazed pantiles.  The house was extended in the 1860s by Cornell Fison, to increase its stature as a prominant family home, and then again in the 2000s to provide specialist nursing facilities.

Today, Ford Place stands in three and a half acres of formal gardens, including a historic walled garden.  Many of the original features of the house and garden have been preserved for the enjoyment of the residents and visitors alike. The nursing home offers premium long term, convalescent and respite care in a stunning facility.

Ford Place is situated on the beautiful River Thet and is bordered by the historic market town on Thetford. In addition, Ford Place is located close to Thetford Forest, as well as the Elveden and Euston Estates and Center Parcs holiday resort.

Daily life at Ford Place is a mixture of enjoyable social events and peaceful relaxation.

For those residents wishing to keep themselves occupied, our activities coordinators arrange a busy schedule of interesting and varied activities. Our regular events include singing, painting, cards and other board games, movie afternoons, reminiscence and poetry readings, as well as regular live music performances. Importantly, relatives and friends are always encouraged to join in. Residents who do not wish to take part in groups activities are given time on a one to one basis, allowing them enjoyable conversation and providing them with company.

Additionally, larger events are organised on a yearly basis, such as the annual cricket match at Stowlangtoft Hall, coffee mornings, and trips to local attractions. Whatever your interest, there is something at Ford Place for you.

We look to the seasons to inspire change in our menus and take care to prepare dishes that reflect food our residents have been used to enjoying throughout their lives as well as encouraging residents to try something new!
