Prestigious Chief Nurse Team Award for Outstanding Brandon Park Care Home

There have been celebrations all round at Brandon Park Nursing Home as their Activities Team have been honoured with a prestigious award by England’s Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care, Professor Deborah Sturdy. The team were presented with a Chief Nurse Adult Social Care Award in recognition of their exceptional creativity and dedication to enriching the lives of residents every single day.

From arranging a personal fashion photoshoot and magazine for resident Rona, to helping Percy reconnect with his love of tractors, and supporting Enid to launch her own line of artwork merchandise—raising over £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society—the team have gone above and beyond to make meaningful moments happen.

The team have also worked hard to involve local communities, including visits from toddler groups, outings to the seaside pantomime, trips to the garden centre and the zoo, and arranging meaningful activities every week with groups and individual residents alike.

To mark this outstanding achievement, Professor Deborah Sturdy joined the Brandon Park team virtually for a surprise presentation.

Jan Heti, Home Manager at Brandon Park said of the award:
“The activities team at Brandon Park are exceptional at supporting our residents and sourcing activities to meet individual likes, wishes and past histories. Just a few examples of many great things they have put together include regular messy play sessions with toddlers from the local community, our residents absolutely adore joining in and playing with the toddlers. The summer fete last year was amazing, the effort to include residents in the planning committee and to be a part of manning the fete stalls with their relatives really showed inclusion and helped to raise a massive amount of money for the residents funds. This was then used to fund outings last year to the seaside, the zoo, pantomime and garden centre.”

Brandon Park, rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, is no stranger to acclaim, having their team also recognised in the 2024 Great British Care’s Activities Organiser Award—testament to the dedication and excellence of everyone involved in providing care and support.

These accolades are based on feedback from residents and their families, reflecting the warm, vibrant and person-led culture that Brandon Park is known for.
