Stow Healthcare is proud to celebrate the success of Silvia Nunes, Manager of Ford Place Care Home in Thetford, who has been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Nurse title by the Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI).
This honour is awarded to nurses who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to high-quality community nursing. With only around 3,000 Queen’s Nurses in the UK and roughly 500 new titles awarded each year, the accolade reflects Silvia’s exceptional leadership, dedication, and clinical expertise.
“Receiving the Queen’s Nurse title means so much to me. The residents I support, their families, and the amazing colleagues I work alongside are the heart of everything I do. This honour celebrates not only my journey, but the love, dignity, and humanity at the centre of nursing care.” Silvia Nunes, Manager of Ford Place
Silvia’s Impact at Ford Place
Silvia has been a transformative leader at Ford Place, spearheading improvements in clinical practice, staff wellbeing, and resident experience. Her leadership style, rooted in trust, transparency, and the belief that people thrive when they feel they belong, has shaped the home’s culture and left a lasting legacy.
One of the most significant projects introduced at Ford Place involved improving access to vaccinations for residents. Care home residents often receive fewer opportunities to access the full suite of recommended vaccines than those living in the wider community. To address this, Silvia reviewed each resident’s vaccination history and worked proactively with primary care partners to ensure every clinically appropriate vaccine was offered. The project grew into a wider effort to champion health equality, resulting in Ford Place residents receiving timely, preventative care aligned with national recommendations. Her approach has since informed wider practice across the organisation.
Silvia also brought a deeply compassionate approach to staff support. Drawing on her paramedic and emergency service background, she introduced a simple but powerful practice known as the “five-minute stop.” After any difficult or emotional event, staff were encouraged to pause together, sit down, and share how they were feeling. This reflective, supportive moment helped the team process their experiences and strengthened the home’s culture of care. It quickly became an integral part of the way Ford Place supported its team and reflects Silvia’s belief that staff wellbeing is central to excellent care.
A New Chapter Supporting All Stow Healthcare Homes
At the time of publication, Silvia has begun an exciting new role with the organisation as Clinical Partner and Nurse Educator, based at Stow Healthcare’s Support Office. In this role, she will support all the homes within the group, promoting excellent clinical practice, championing staff development, and helping to elevate standards of care across the organisation. Her new position will allow her to share her expertise across the entire Stow Healthcare network, strengthen links with external health partners, and ensure residents receive safe, equitable, and compassionate care wherever they live.
“Becoming a Queen’s Nurse is an extraordinary milestone, and Silvia truly deserves this recognition. Her leadership at Ford Place has been exceptional—she inspires her teams, drives meaningful change and always puts residents at the heart of her decisions. We are thrilled that her expertise will now benefit all of our homes as she moves into her new role.”
